A all-purpose belt knife with a wooden handle and sheath, chipcarved and accented with hand-hammered copper. The grooved surface decoration is reminiscent of the raked sand in a zen or Japanese rock garden.

For this knife we used a Helle Viking blade, a thicker utility knife based off of a historic norse design that was handmade in Norway. It features triple laminated carbon steel, a blade thickness of 3.7 mm and a blade length of 110 mm.

We handled this blade using local red maple, and created a wooden friction-fit sheath using yellow cedar generously sent to us by bowlturner-extraordinaire Zach LaPerierre in Sitka, AK. The sheath is decorated with delicately chip-carved grooves, hand hammered copper rivets with swirled ends, and a cut-out in the sheath from which the knife could be strung on a belt for hanging. The end of the handle has a copper washer under the riveted tang, and the rivet has been stamped with the letter R. All of the wood has been left unfinished, and will hopefully acquire a beautiful patina after years of use.

9 1/2" long by 1" tall by 1 3/4" at the widest, with the sheath on.

The belt cut-out in the sheath measures 3/4" wide by 1/4" tall.
