A unique wabi sabi serving bowl carved by hand from local ambrosia maple in our shop in Downeast Maine.
This multi-purpose bowl would be great for serving guests as part of your bust-out-the-nice-stuff entertaining wares, as a natural place for resting dough, or as an everyday statement fruit bowl on your countertop.
We picked up this beautiful piece of dark, multi-tonal ambrosia maple wood from our friend Jorge Castaneda in Stonington, Maine. We shaped and hollowed out the bowl with handtools only, allowing the shaping to be completely free-form and unique by using no compasses or rulers. The inside of the bowl is covered with a stubtle flowing faceted surface left by our curved spoon knives, and the shorter outside edges are deeply textured from gouges. The longer outside edges were smoothed by drawknife and intentionally left freckled with wabi sabi raised patches from the roughing-in process.
This bowl is completely one-of-a-kind unique and non-replicable.
The surface of the bowl has been finished with organic solvent-free linseed oil and candelilla wax, making the wood smooth and perfect for food contact.
This bowl shouldn't be used with very liquid-y foods, like vinegary salad dressing or soup.
About 13 1/4" long by 9 1/2" wide by 3 5/8" tall overall.
You will receive the same exact bowl as in the photos. Hand wash only and re-oil with linseed or walnut oil as needed.
