A all-purpose belt knife with a wooden handle and sheath, chipcarved, painted, and accented with hand-hammered copper rivets.
For this knife we used a Helle Saga Siglar blade, a modern replica of a historical Viking utility or belt knife from the ninth century. This blade was made by hand in Norway. It features triple laminated carbon steel, a blade thickness of 3.7 mm and a blade length of 88 mm.
We handled this blade using local white birch, and created a wooden friction-fit sheath using local white pine. The sheath is decorated with hand hammered copper rivets with curled ends, from which the knife could be strung for hanging. The end of the handle has a copper washer under the riveted tang. The handle and case were chipcarved using traditional handtools, and the handle and case have been painted with non-toxic paints. The inside of the sheath has been left unfinished.
9" long by 1 3/4" tall by 1 3/8" at the widest, with the sheath on.
